Working on a guard stance! This past Monday, we finished up our self defense workshop for women. This was a really great group of women who were enthusiastic and excited to learn how to defend themselves. The Workshop -- part 1 The first part of the course, covers a lot of classroom type information, ranging from a brief review about self defense laws in South Carolina, domestic violence facts, the 3 main reasons women get attacked, attack indicators, common everyday weapons, attack points to target, and the physiological changes the body goes through during an attack. Then we go out on the dojo floor and cover basic kicks, how to punch properly, and a good guard stance. We then worked on specific self defense techniques against a choke front and back, bear hugs front and back, wrist grabs and hair pulls. Defending against a bear hug!
